How to move a Notion workspace

   Export from Notion as Markdown

   In Notion, open the workspace settings, choose Export all workspace content, and pick Markdown & CSV as the format. Turn on Include subpages so the hierarchy comes with it. Notion emails you a zip, usually within a few minutes.

   Open the importer

   In Sumibako, open Settings and choose Import. You can drop the zip straight onto the panel - there is no need to unzip it first, and zips inside the zip are unpacked for you.

   Choose what comes across

   The importer reads the archive and shows you the page tree it found, with a character count beside each page. Nothing is written to your vault until you confirm, so an export full of pages you no longer want does not have to arrive in full.

   Confirm

   Pages are created in batches with their nesting preserved, and you land in your vault with the tree already built. Everything from one archive is tagged as a single import, so it can be undone as one thing rather than page by page.

Questions

Do I need a paid plan to import from Notion?

No. The importer is on the free plan, like every other feature - plans differ only in how much you can store, not in what you can do. The free plan holds up to 1,000 notes, and if your export is larger than that, the importer lets you pick which pages come across.

Will my page hierarchy survive?

Yes. Notion names each page's subpage folder after the page itself, so the tree can be rebuilt from the filenames. Pages nest up to 10 levels deep on every plan.

What happens to my Notion databases?

They are skipped. Notion exports a database as a CSV file rather than as a page, and importing it as a wall of comma-separated text would produce something you would have to delete. The import summary tells you how many were skipped so nothing disappears quietly.

Can I import an Obsidian vault instead?

Yes, the same importer reads it. An Obsidian vault has no per-page folders, so it nests by directory instead. Plain Markdown files and PDFs work too.

Is there a size limit?

An archive can be up to 100MB, and a single page up to 200,000 characters. Pages longer than that are imported with the tail trimmed, and the importer tells you which ones rather than letting you find out later.
